Future-proof district supply thanks to our SPECTRUM water heat pump

A SPECTRUM Water heat pump and two QUANTUM Air chillers cover the cooling and heating requirements of a large service and hotel complex in Bordeaux all year round - and guarantee a consistently efficient district supply.

  • The SPECTRUM Water heat pump with an output of one megawatt of heating and 740 kilowatts of cooling independently manages the district supply in Bordeaux for most of the year. In summer, two QUANTUM Air chillers, each with an output of one megawatt, generate additional cooling for the building complex.

  • The SPECTRUM Water heat pump boasts industry-leading seasonal efficiency values (heating SCOP 45/55 to 6.11; cooling SEER to 8.26), especially at partial load, which accounts for around 75 percent of the operating time.

Future security, environmental friendliness and independence from fluctuating oil and gas prices as well as legal developments - these are the goals that the operators of a 40,000 square meter service and hotel complex in a landscaped area near Bordeaux airport are striving for when it comes to supplying the district. The customer also attaches great importance to high efficiency, low noise emissions and absolute operational reliability of the cooling and heating application for its accommodation. ENGIE Refrigeration provided the right solution for all these requirements: the SPECTRUM water heat pump with an output of one megawatt of heat and 740 kilowatts of cooling. This enables the system to supply almost the entire district. The heat pump feeds into a heating and cooling network that generates hot water (55 degrees Celsius) for space heating and cold water (7 degrees Celsius) for space cooling for the building complex in winter. This is achieved by the integrated hydraulic circuit. Two QUANTUM Air chillers, each with a cooling capacity of one megawatt, are only available for the additional cooling requirements in summer.

One heat pump, many advantages

Thanks to the oil-free and magnetic bearing of the compressor shaft, the SPECTRUM Water heat pump impresses with its consistent efficiency in district supply. Its high seasonal efficiency values (heating SCOP 45/55 to 6.11; cooling SEER to 8.26), particularly at partial load, which accounts for around 75 percent of the operating time, result in low operating costs and low indirect emissions. The heat pump is also environmentally friendly thanks to the low-GWP refrigerant R-1234ze - and therefore fits in perfectly with the BREEAM sustainability certification of the entire building complex and the individual buildings. In addition, the waste heat in chiller mode is used to regenerate the probe field, among other things, so that the primary energy and the ground can be used as a natural heat store as part of the district supply. The compact, lightweight and simple machine design reduces installation and maintenance costs and also saves important space. The pleasant atmosphere in the district also remains undisturbed at all times: thanks to its low noise level, the heat pump generates very reduced noise emissions. In short, our SPECTRUM is the ideal solution for district heating.
