Heating transition, decarbonisation and climate neutrality are the major challenges of our time. With its new SPECTRUM Water series, ENGIE Refrigeration offers an innovative solution that reliably assists users in these endeavours. The oil-free and highly efficient large heat pump will take your heating supply to the next level – and that’s guaranteed.
‘Thanks to the SPECTRUM Water heat pump, users can prepare their heating supply for the future. With our new model they contribute to the decarbonisation of heating and achieve their own climate protection targets. This way, we contribute together to the heating transition and to the 1.5 degree target.’
Marcel Kulk,
Product Manager at ENGIE Refrigeration
Fully in line with the European Green Deal: our SPECTRUM Water will further the decarbonisation of heating – and thereby contribute towards the heating transition and help you achieve your own climate protection targets.
The SPECTRUM is the ecologically sustainable alternative to heat generators run on fossil fuels and ideal for green building architecture, as well as for forward-looking local authorities and cities. Potential sources of heat include groundwater, seawater, river water, geothermal energy, and waste heat from industrial processes and server rooms. The SPECTRUM Water also convinces as a brine/water heat pump. In this form it can be combined with innovative ice storage systems or hybrid air coolers as a heat source.
The combination of maximum system efficiency and refrigerants with a low global warming potential (GWP) reduces both the direct and the indirect emissions of the system and leads to an unbeatably low overall ecological balance (TEWI: total equivalent warming impact). Especially if the compressor runs on green electricity from renewable energies – because this enables carbon-neutral operation of the system. This will bring you, the user, a good step closer to your target of ‘climate neutrality‘.
Numbering twelve basic models in total, the SPECTRUM Water water/water heat pump is available with a rated heating capacity of 350 to 3,100 kilowatts, and for condenser leaving water temperatures of up to +65 degrees Celsius. Operating companies can choose between the A2L low-GWP refrigerant R-1234ze (GWP <1) and the highly efficient A1 safety refrigerants R-515B (GWP 299) and R-513A (GWP 573).
But that’s not all: the SPECTRUM Water also convinces as a new brine/water heat pump. It comes in six basic models and offers a rated thermal output of 170 to 1,060 kilowatts with cooling medium temperatures of up to +50 degrees Celsius and brine temperatures reaching -10 degrees Celsius. Operating companies can choose the A2L low-GWP refrigerant R-1234ze or the A1 safety refrigerant R-515B.
In addition, hydraulic switching allows the large heat pump to be deployed as a water-cooled comfort cooler for chilled medium temperatures reaching +25 degrees Celsius and a rated cooling capacity of between 240 and 2,000 kilowatts. This allows a building’s cooling requirements in summer and heating requirements in winter to be met with just one machine.
Your additional advantage: the total capacity is split among up to six redundantly connected compressors instead of being handled by one large compressor. This guarantees maximum operational reliability.
It’s hardly a secret that energy efficiency always comes first for ENGIE Refrigeration – the motto is ‘efficiency first’. And of course that applies to the SPECTRUM Water heat pump as well: the new oil-free turbo compressors with magnetic bearings combined with flooded shell and tube condensers and the open-flash economizer integrated as standard guarantee maximum seasonal efficiency and performance with a minimal footprint.
As a water/water heat pump, it reaches industry-beating ETA values (W10/W55) of up to 239 per cent (SCOP up to 6.18). These values far exceed the TIER 2 ecodesign minimum efficiency performance standards (MEPS) for heat pumps of < 400 kilowatts as specified in VO (EU) 813/2013.
As a brine/water heat pump for low-temperature heating applications, the machine can achieve COP values (B0/W35) of up to 5.20 and ETA values of up to 241 per cent – for maximum seasonal efficiency and sustainability.
Especially in times of rising energy and carbon prices, a high level of system efficiency is a key factor in sustainably reducing your operating costs and carbon emissions and remaining competitive in the long term. After all, the cleanest and cheapest kilowatt-hour is the one that is never even generated. That’s why you should rely on the SPECTRUM Water.
Due to the innovative magnetic bearings of the compressor shaft, the SPECTRUM Water requires no lubricants hazardous to groundwater in its refrigerant circuit – in contrast to the standard compressor technologies on the market. The series-ready oil-free machine design makes the system unique on the international market for large heat pumps. The absence of oil ensures stable performance and efficiency throughout the machine’s service life, as no oil deposits can develop in the heat exchangers or in the refrigerant circuit (what is referred to as ‘oil fouling’). It also makes for a simple, low-maintenance and reliable machine design, as no fault-prone oil management peripherals are required. In addition, you don’t need to provide oil receptacles on site – and there is no need for labour-intensive oil changes on the compressor. You benefit from this, because service deployments take less time and service-related system downtimes are reduced, which saves time and money in the long term. |
The SPECTRUM Water is not only highly efficient; thanks to the intelligent and space-saving positioning of components, it also has very compact dimensions – and thus unbeatably high power density levels. This saves space in technology rooms and makes the machine easier to introduce.
In addition, the magnetic bearings of the compressor shaft achieve noise and vibration levels that are unparalleled in the field of large heat pumps; the values for the machine are in the range of 94-102 dB(A). In noise-sensitive environments, the noise level of the SPECTRUM Water can be further reduced by means of optional compressor enclosures.
The SPECTRUM Water is thus perfect for all areas where space is limited and sonic requirements are strict.
Everything hinges on the foundation. That is why our SPECTRUM Water heat pump is based on the unique concept of the QUANTUM Water – which in turn has been setting the standard as the most efficient water-cooled chiller on the international market since June 2021.
Accordingly, the SPECTRUM also features innovative high-quality technological components: the brains of the machine are provided by an intelligent and fast Siemens S7 PLC. To increase user-friendliness and serviceability, it is possible to operate the machine via a 10-inch or 15-inch touch panel, in addition to the simple and intuitive operation on a mobile end device via smart control. Further highlights offered by the SPECTRUM Water: the interface with our CoolCare remote maintenance software, and a lead and follower machine PLC integrated as standard.
As with the QUANTUM series, an extensive package of options and accessories with control system extensions is also available. The optional smart grid interface, for example, allows grid-interactive operation of the system. A wide range of energy management options allows you to keep an eye on the system’s energy consumption, performance and efficiency at all times. You benefit, because ENGIE Refrigeration is certain to provide the perfect model design for your individual needs.
The SPECTRUM Water will allow you to benefit from attractive subsidies in future. Because of its very high energy efficiency in heating mode, the system exceeds the requirements of the Ecodesign Directive by a multiple. It also easily achieves the minimum efficiency values stipulated by the federal fund for efficient buildings (BEG), which means that retroactive installation of the large heat pump for room heating and warm water preparation in existing non-residential buildings is eligible for subsidies covering up to 40 per cent of eligible costs as an individual measure.
To facilitate and speed up the application process for you, the SPECTRUM Water series has been added to the internal BAFA database with all its available refrigerants, and has been officially classified as eligible for subsidies. So there’s nothing to get in the way of those subsidies!
The European Union, the German government and the state governments also offer further lucrative support programmes that financially reward the installation of efficient heat pumps in various areas and for various applications.
If you want to know more about available support for your case, we are happy to advise you!
Outstanding power density, operational reliability, energy efficiency and sustainability: thanks to its specific features, the SPECTRUM Water heat pump is perfect for a variety of applications and many different industries.
