Innovation and sustainability are driving the automobile industry forward - and are an integral part of ENGIE Refrigeration's corporate philosophy. This shared aspiration is reflected in a project in Salzgitter, Lower Saxony, where our cooling and heating experts are supporting one of the world's leading car manufacturers with triple the cooling power. A total of three water-cooled QUANTUM chillers with the A1 refrigerant R-515B provide the ideal climate in a test stand of the global enterprise. The systems each have a cooling capacity of two megawatts. The primary focus is on the air conditioning of test chambers for battery cells. In addition, the water-cooled chillers regulate the room climate and are available for cooling other chillers that supply cooling at a particularly low temperature level (a so-called cascade solution). In order to fulfil the car manufacturer's factory standards, our specialists delivered separate supply cabinets. The modern water-cooled chillers complement our powerful QUANTUM Air, which has been in use at the customer's site since 2023.
Thanks to the non-flammable A1 refrigerant R-515B, the cooling solution impresses with its high level of safety. In addition, the A1 refrigerant used scores points compared to the A1 refrigerant R-134a due to a 77 per cent reduction in global warming potential. With a GWP (Global Warming Potential) value of 293 (IPCC-AR4) or 299 (IPCC-AR5), R-515B meets the requirements of the F-Gas Regulation - until at least 2030. In addition to the A1 refrigerant, the selected water-cooled chiller offers numerous advantages: above all, the outstanding efficiency of the QUANTUM Water, which surpasses all other water-cooled chiller series on the market. This enables the car manufacturer to meet the highest economic and ecological requirements for cooling supply.
